FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a celebrant and why would we choose one?
A celebrant leads a ceremony, such as a wedding or vow renewal, and they don’t have to be a religious or government official. As an independent celebrant I work entirely with you to create a ceremony that reflects your personal beliefs and what really matters to you. This means you aren’t tied to the same script used by hundreds before you and we can make the ceremony a deeply personal and joyous celebration of your love.
Is the ceremony legally binding?
You will need to register your marriage at your local council. Traditionally, the ceremony and registration of the wedding has taken place at the same time- at a church or registry office for example. But they don’t have to, as your marriage starts when you make your commitment to each other in the ceremony- the registration is just about legal paperwork and can be done shortly before or after.
What’s included in your fee?
A consultation meeting to see if we ‘click’
Email, telephone or skype conference calls as we plan your ceremony
Access to my handpicked selection of poems and readings to inspire you
Help with writing your vows and finding the right words
A unique wedding ceremony written specially for you
Freedom to include religious, spiritual and/or wedding traditions that mean something special to you
A commemorative wedding certificate, to be signed by you both and two witnesses
A keepsake copy of your ceremony script so you can relive the words
Are you affiliated with any religion?
I am an independent celebrant, which means my only focus is that you have a ceremony that is all about you. I am not tied to any particular religion and I respect all viewpoints and spiritual perspectives.
What can we include in our ceremony?
Whatever you like, whether it’s borrowing the Pagan tradition of hand fasting, or keeping it simple and classic. Anything is possible. A celebrant-led ceremony is all about focusing on what matters the most to you and what will make it a truly special and unforgettable experience.
Do you perform same sex marriage ceremonies?
Which areas do you cover?
I’m based in West Norwood, South London and I’d be delighted to meet up with you for our first consultation within the Greater London area. If your ceremony is going to be further afield, I’m happy to travel beyond London, I’ll just need any necessary travel and accommodation costs in addition to my fee.
How do we book you?
As soon as you know your date, get in touch and I’ll see if I’m available. If I am, then we can get together to have a chat and see if we ‘click’, after which you’ll just need to send me further details about you and the day, plus a £200 booking fee to secure your date.
